Energy Optimization for Injection Molding Machines

To meet growing demands for energy efficiency and sustainability, Serman & Tipsmark, in collaboration with a customer, has developed an energy optimization solution for injection molding machines.

The Challenge
Injection molding machines typically consume large amounts of energy, as the main pumps often run continuously – even during cooling periods when flow demand is minimal. The goal was to reduce energy consumption without compromising machine performance.

The Solution
By implementing frequency control on the main pumps and stopping them during cooling phases, the machine can maintain the required holding pressure using a smaller, external motor-pump unit. This reduces both energy consumption and heat generation from the hydraulic system.

The Result
The solution has led to significant energy savings:

  • 30% reduction in energy consumption on the hydraulic pump

  • 40% reduction in energy consumption for cooling

In addition to financial savings, the solution helps reduce the customer’s overall CO₂ footprint and supports their sustainability goals.

Serman & Tipsmark delivers innovative solutions that promote responsible energy use and efficiency.
