HPU Delivered for a Sand Dredger Vessel

Serman & Tipsmark recently delivered a hydraulic power unit (HPU) to one of our customers in the marine industry. The pump station is installed on a sand dredger – an impressive vessel designed specifically to remove and transport large quantities of sand from the seabed. This sand is often used for beach nourishment, dike construction, harbor expansions, coastal development, or infrastructure projects that require vast amounts of sand.

To move such massive amounts of sand, the bottom of the ship is designed to open – known as a split hull system – allowing the sand to fall directly out of the vessel. This function is powered by hydraulics from Serman & Tipsmark.

The hydraulic system supplies a ring line with oil for the split system and other functions on the vessel such as the winch and hatch systems. It is capable of delivering 1,600 liters of oil per minute, driven by six 86 kW electric motors.

Additionally, the steel tank housing the HPU is extremely robust, as it must withstand the enormous forces exerted when the vessel's split system opens and the gates tilt 5–10 degrees.

Serman & Tipsmark’s expertise ensures a high-quality hydraulic system tailored to the specific requirements of a pump station of this caliber.
